Crock Pot Fondues
The fondue craze began making the rounds at parties back in the 50’s,
60’s and 70’s in the United States. Fondue actually started in
Switzerland as way to use up cheese that had hardened and was considered
unusable. The word fondue comes from the French verb “fondre,” which
means “to melt.” This was considered to be a peasant dish, as it used up
both the hardened cheese as well as stale bread pieces. Now, not only is
this a popular dish for gatherings of all kinds, but there are also
restaurants that have opened through the years that specialize in fondue
meals only.
Special fondue pots were sold to enable everyone to have this
delicious eating experience. These sets included a small fondue pot,
usually a set of 4 fondue forks, and its own non-electric heating
source. Fondue pots were very popular gifts for holidays, birthdays,
anniversaries, or wedding presents.
You may wonder how it’s possible to have an entire meal using
fondues. It is entirely possible to do this because there are fondues
for everything from appetizers to desserts. You will find a sampling of
these recipes for fondues following.
Think of your crock pot the next time it’s your turn to entertain. These
recipes are only the tip of the ice berg as far as using fondue recipes
in your crock pot. You mix, cook and serve all in the same pot. Then
clean up is a breeze. It can’t get any easier!
